Light, easy, affordable.
4 siomai, 1 rice, and a heaping side of toasted garlic with toyomansi (soy sauce and calamansi)—if there was extra budget, a bottle of Mountain Dew to beat the heat. That was my go-to meal 50lbs ago. 😂
Siomai has always been more than just food—it’s comfort and nostalgia. And when I discovered how easy it is to make, it became a go-to in my kitchen. It’s a snack, a meal, and a budget-friendly treat all in one!
Let’s Get Started!
Ingredients:
• 1/4 kg ground pork (regular or lean)
• 6 pcs shrimp, peeled and roughly chopped (deveined if that’s your thing)
• 1 medium carrot, grated or finely chopped
• 1 tsp onion powder
• 1 tsp garlic powder
• 1 tsp white pepper
• 1/2 tsp salt (optional—see note below)
• 20 molo wrappers
Note: Skipping the salt makes the siomai lighter on the palate, but I get it—many of us love bold flavors. Feel free to add it if that’s your style!
Directions:
1. Mix the pork, shrimp, carrot, onion powder, garlic powder, and white pepper (and salt) until well combined.
2. Divide into 20 portions and wrap with the molo wrappers—get creative! I like mine with a little sneak peek at the top 😉.
Pro Tip: Keep unused molo wrappers in an airtight container to prevent them from drying out. Store-bought wrappers usually have a light coating of flour to stop them from sticking together.
3. Steam for 25-30 minutes.

Serving Suggestions:
Serve with a side of toasted garlic and soy sauce mixed with something sour—calamansi, lemon, or vinegar—for an unforgettable umami experience.
And while this siomai is delicious on its own, it truly shines with my signature chili garlic sauce—recipe coming soon!
I hope you try this simple recipe and love it as much as I do. Share your experience and comment on Pinterest.
