Welcome to Chaotic Old Lady!
Hi there!
Welcome to Chaotic Old Lady, my cozy little corner of the internet where I embrace the beauty of chaos while trying to make life a little more organised—and fulfilling.
I’m Joan, a self-proclaimed home cook, lover of numbers, tinker-er, and sustainability enthusiast. This blog has been a long time coming, and I’m thrilled to finally share it with you.
You’ll find simple recipes for people who have little time (don't we all!) and that have a special place in my heart, insights into managing finances without the overwhelm, and ways to live more intentionally—all while celebrating the beautifully messy parts of life.
I hope you’ll find something here that interests you, simplifies your day, or gives you a reason to slow down and smell the flowers. Let’s share ideas, learn from each other, and find clarity in chaos!
Thank you for stopping by—I’m so ecstatic you’re here!
Hi! I'm the "Old Lady", Joan,
the chaotic mind behind Chaotic Old Lady. Besides my Ikigai, Kevin (husband) and Bella (fur baby girl), I love to cook, mess with numbers (a.k.a. my finances), tinker with tech, and try to live sustainably. All these while embracing life’s little rollercoaster along the way.
This blog has been simmering in my mind since time immemorial and now it is here for others to dip into. It is my space to organise my thoughts, share my mini projects (and big ones, too!), and connect with others who enjoy a slow, flexible lifestyle.
My mind is always in different directions, and that mirrors my many interests. Diverse (maybe too diverse), but I convince myself that they are interconnected 😉
As a child I always enjoyed making things with my hands. I remember having a weird fascination for mechanical pencils and how it works. That's how detailed I would get with my tinkering. 😂 I would often brand my activities as "Joan's butingting" referring to a small shop where a technician would inspect, disassemble, and fix little things. Now as an old lady, I still have a hunger for dissecting processes, learning new things and end up doom researching Bokashi composting.
The whole idea for this blog came from my intention to document my love for making my own food, learning how things are made, researching how to grow herbs and vegetables, talk about tech that fascinates me, and how I try to protect my money from being spent.
Congratulations, you made it this far! I hope you find something here to inspire, try, or simplify your life.

What's the fuss?
Have you ever heard of Multiply.com? If you have, well you must be having back aches more frequently than you would want. lol
But what I really want to say is that that's where everything started for me. The urge to document, keep notes, make photo albums from my digicam, connect with friends, even design my page with CSS. Fun times, really. But it all ended when multiply discontinued and life happened, and things you have to do to survive.
As an old lady in 2025, I keep going back to the idea of documenting life, the lessons, the food, the experiences. So this time, I want to write about adulthood. What it means to enjoy cooking a simple meal, to try and manage my adult money, to deal with government agency red tape (had to squeeze this in somehow 🙃), and all the chaos that envelopes it.
This old lady is definitely a work-in-progress and I am hopeful that this little space can document my growth as a person, a home cook, a budget-er, and a partner.
Follow along, let's be old and chaotic together!
